Prep Basketball GIRLS : Immaculate Heart Streaks to Win In Opener

Immaculate Heart scored 10 straight points early in the fourth quarter to break open a close game and win its San Fernando Valley League opener over visiting Notre Dame, 44-31, Friday night.

The Pandas led, 28-23, starting the final period when Denise LaLande, the game’s top scorer with 21 points, started the scoring streak.

Notre Dame never led again after taking a 11-10 first quarter lead. Jodie Nix led the Lady Knights with 13 points, while sophomore Debbie Day had 17 rebounds.

Notre Dame is 1-6 for the season, 0-1 in league. Immaculate Heart improved its overall record to 2-3.

Buckley 34, Moorpark 22 Ariana Lallone scored 10 points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds to spark host Buckley to a 34-22 nonleague win over Moorpark Friday afternoon.

Buckley led, 7-6, after one quarter, but busted the game open in the second period, outscoring the Muskateers 12-2.

Moorpark managed to cut Buckley’s lead to six during the third period, but the Griffins hit some clutch free throws in the last period to pick up their fourth win.

Tara Mody added nine points and 12 rebounds for Buckley, while Sharon Williamson also grabbed 12 rebounds.
