San Diego Prep Basketball : Torrey Pines Scores Technical Knockout

Four first-half technical fouls by San Dieguito High and a game-high 24 points by forward Scott Kennedy helped Torrey Pines to a 60-46 Palomar League victory Wednesday night at Torrey Pines.

San Dieguito Coach Dave LaBorde was called for two technicals in the first quarter for arguing with the referees. In addition, the Mustang’s Keith Schneringer was called for a technical for dunking in warmups, and teammate Matt Sandberg was called for one during first-half play.

Torrey Pines was given six free throws as a result of the technicals, converting five to help the Falcons (2-1 in league, 6-8 overall) to a 27-19 halftime lead. Will Moselle’s 17 points led San Dieguito (0-3, 3-8) in scoring.

In other Palomar League games:

Poway 78, Fallbrook 44--Top-ranked Poway’s John Colborne dominated both offensively and defensively with a game-high 23 points, 14 rebounds and 5 blocked shots at Fallbrook. Dominick Johnson supported Colborne with 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Jud Buechler added 14 points for the Titans (3-0, 13-0). Chris Hanson, Doug Witkop and K.C. Denver each scored 10 points for Fallbrook (1-1, 1-9).

Vista 78, Orange Glen 71--Vista earned its first league win of the season at Orange Glen. The Panthers are 6-8 on the season and 1-2 in league. Orange Glen is 1-1 in league and 4-5 overall.

In Metro League action:

Sweetwater 112, Southwest 39--Larry Wilson’s 26 points led six Red Devils in double figures in a game played at Sweetwater. Mahlon Williams added 19 points for third-ranked Sweetwater (3-0, 14-2) which played 14 players in the game and led at halftime, 52-18. Marcus Moreno led Southwest (1-2, 2-9) with 12 points.

Bonita Vista 56, Marian 44--Bonita Vista used good defense to limit the Crusaders to three points in the third quarter for the comeback win at Marian. Marian (1-2, 3-8) led by five-points at halftime, 30-25, but Bonita Vista (2-1, 6-6) had a 40-34 advantage after three quarters. Javier Nunez led Marian with 18 points. David Fulmer scored a game-high 20 points, and Fred Brown added 14 for Bonita Vista.
