Former Portland Prep Star Picks Reno

PORTLAND, Ore. — Richard Hollis, the highly recruited Portland prep basketball player who left the University of Arizona before the start of this season, said Wednesday he will enroll at the University of Nevada Reno Monday.
Hollis and his former prep coach, John Stilwell of Grant High School, met with Nevada Reno Coach Sonny Allen in Portland Saturday.
Hollis had narrowed his choices to Nevada Reno and the University of Portland. He chose Nevada Reno even though Stilwell urged him to attend Portland.
Hollis left Arizona in October, when Wildcat Coach Lute Olsen said the young player “is not ready for a disciplined program.”
“Basically, I wasn’t ready for Arizona...I just didn’t like it,” Hollis said. “I don’t feel I have anything to prove to anybody. It’s my life. I do what I want to do.”
