Prep Basketball BOYS : 3 Free Throws by Capp Lead Crespi Past Bosco Tech, 57-56

Crespi High School fought off a valiant fourth-quarter comeback by Bosco Tech for a 57-56 Del Rey League victory Tuesday night.

Guard Brian Capp hit three clutch free throws in the final 22 seconds to ice the Crespi win on Bosco’s home court. The Celts had held a 13-point lead after three quarters.

“We’re just glad to win and get out of here,” Crespi Coach Paul Muff said.

Techmen William Vasquez, who ended the game with 15 points, and Mario Diaz, who eventually had 12, each scored six points in the fourth quarter to lead Bosco’s late 20-8 spurt.

Crespi guard Joseph Campanella scored 11 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter to awaken his sluggish teammates. Capp scored 13 points, while junior forward Steve Tanin had 10. Guard Alfie Basile led the Celts with eight assists and five rebounds.

Crespi, which is ranked No. 8 in the latest Southern Section Big-5 Conference poll, improved its record to 9-6 overall and 4-1 in league. The Techmen dropped to 7-9 and 2-2.

Pilgrim 70, Lutheran (Ventura) 63

A last-ditch comeback attempt by Lutheran High of Ventura County fell short as the host Patriots managed to hold on for a Heritage League victory.

Pilgrim had an 18-point advantage in the fourth period before Jonathan Doering, a 6-2 junior, scored 11 of his game-high 25 points to close the gap. Doering, who averages 25 points per game, grabbed 13 rebounds. Dan Surgin and Joe Miranda added 12 and 11 points respectively for the Barons.

Pilgrim was led by Mark Yokoyama with 22 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter, and Chris Kitchens with 19 points.

The loss left Lutheran with a 2-3 league and 5-6 season mark while Pilgrim kept its league record spotless at 4-0.Jenkins 45, W.V. Christian 40

West Valley Christian was bolstered by a 21-point, 12-rebound performance by Allen Prince, but it wasn’t enough to get the Seekers in the win column as they fell to Jenkins in a Christian Schools Athletic Conference game at Santa Paula.

La Salle 49, Chaminade 39

Joe Hart, a 6-4 junior forward, scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Lancers to a Santa Fe League victory over the Eagles on the winners’ home court.

La Salle took a 23-14 halftime lead before Chaminade closed the gap to six in the third quarter.
