San Diego Prep Basketball : Salisbury Gets Ball and Orange Glen Gets Win, 72-54

Orange Glen High center Brett Salisbury scored a game-high 26 points and grabbed 19 rebounds to help the Patriots to a 72-54 Palomar League victory Wednesday night against Fallbrook at Orange Glen.

“As a unit, we made an important step in getting Brett the ball,” Orange Glen Coach Dana Ernest said. “We had been showing impatience, but tonight we showed more patience.”

The Patriots (2-2 in league, 5-6 overall) led by just four points at halftime, 28-24, but outscored the Warriors, 20-10, in the third quarter to pull away. Salisbury, who made 13 of 17 shots from the floor, scored 10 points in the third quarter. Kyles Ruggles scored 18 points and Caorey Kelly added 10 for Orange Glen. Jeff Work led Fallbrook (1-3, 1-11) with 24 points.

In other Palomar League games:

Poway 65, Torrey Pines 47--Torrey Pines remained within striking distance for much of the game with a box-and-one defense, but couldn’t prevent the top-rated Titans from winning their 14th game without a loss at Poway. The Falcons had one player shadow Poway’s Jud Buechler throughout the game, but Buechler still scored 14 points to share the Titans’ scoring lead with Dominick Johnson and Gary Anderson. Poway (4-0, 14-0) led at halftime, 27-17. Scott Kennedy led all scorers with 17 points for Torrey Pines (3-2, 7-9).

Mt. Carmel 71, San Dieguito 37--All 13 Sundevil players scored against San Dieguito at Mt. Carmel, led by Edgar Camerino’s game-high 19 points. Substitute Andy Hart helped out on the boards for Mt. Carmel (3-1, 7-9) with 10 rebounds. The tight Sundevils defense helped Mt. Carmel to a 33-18 halftime lead. Dan Henderson led San Dieguito (1-4, 4-9) with 18 points.

In Metro Conference action:

Sweetwater 115, Mar Vista 46--Matt Simmons scored 24 points and Larry Wilson had 23 in the third-ranked Red Devils’ 44th straight league win at Mar Vista. A total of 13 players scored in the game for Sweetwater (5-0, 16-2). Jim McCluskey led Mar Vista (1-4, 3-10) with 16 points.

Chula Vista 75, Hilltop 49--The 10th-ranked Spartans remained unbeaten in league play with the win at Chula Vista. Chula Vista is now 5-0 in the Metro-South Bay League and 11-5 overall. Hilltop dropped to 1-4 in league and 2-15 overall.

Montgomery 70, Castle Park 59--The Aztecs evened their season’s record with the upset win at Castle Park. Montgomery is now 6-6 on the season and 2-3 in the Metro-South Bay league. Castle Park is 3-2 in league and 6-7 overall.
