San Diego Prep Basketball : Ramona Defeats Carlsbad With Fourth-Quarter Comeback, 44-34

The Ramona High School boys basketball team outscored Carlsbad, 20-6, in the final quarter en route to a 44-34 comeback win in an Avocado League game on Saturday at Ramona High.

The win improves Ramona’s records to 4-1 and 10-5 and moves it into a battle with El Camino and Oceanside for the Avocado League lead. It was the second straight loss for Carlsbad (3-2, 9-6).

Carlsbad led, 28-24, after three quarters, but Ramona played tough defense and made 11 of 13 from the free throw line during its late rally. Mike Pendell led Ramona with 13 points and Craig Stoker added 12. Ramona’s John Monetta added 11 assists. Rick White led Carlsbad with 11 points.

El Camino 58, San Marcos 36--The No. 8 Wildcats improved their records to 5-1 and 14-2 to remain on top of the Avocado League with the win at San Marcos. San Marcos is 0-5 and 3-11.

San Pasqual 66, Escondido 57--San Pasqual outscored Escondido, 22-15, in the third quarter to break open a close game at San Pasqual. Tom Noonan led San Pasqual with 21 points and teammates Jeff Baglio and Bill Brennan added 14 and 13 points respectively. Escondido’s Darin Sommer led all scorers with 24 points and teammate Chris Rozenko added 13. San Pasqual is 2-3 and 10-8. Escondido dropped to 0-5 and 1-12.
