Tennis Roundup : McEnroe, Connors Win Indoors

No. 1-seeded John McEnroe and No. 2-seeded Jimmy Connors led an advance to the quarterfinals of the $300,000 U.S. Pro Indoor tennis championships Thursday at Philadelphia.
McEnroe eliminated Brad Gilbert, 6-1, 6-2, in 53 minutes. Connors beat Stefan Edberg of Sweden, 7-6, 6-2, but had to survive a 62-minute first set.
In other third-round matches, No. 4-seeded Eliot Teltscher rallied to defeat Tim Mayotte, 1-6, 7-6, 6-3, and No. 5-seeded Yannick Noah of France beat Cassio Motta of Brazil, 6-1, 6-2.
At Key Biscayne, Fla., Kathy Rinaldi, seeded No. 13, ousted No. 3-seeded Wendy Turnbull of Australia, 6-2, 6-4, in the third round of a $150,000 tennis tournament.
Also, No. 1-seeded Martina Navratilova defeated Yvonne Vermaak of South Africa, 6-4, 6-0, and No. 2-seeded Chris Evert Lloyd beat Sabrina Goles of Yugoslavia, 6-2, 6-0.
