DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. — Hollis Stacy sank a 20-foot birdie putt on the final hole Sunday to break a three-way tie and win the $200,000 Mazda tournament at Deer Creek Country Club.
The 30-year-old Stacy held off Ayako Okamoto, whose effort to force a playoff failed when her 20-footer at No. 18 rimmed the cup and stopped three inches away, and Pat Bradley, who began the day as the leader but ran into trouble down the stretch.
Stacy’s five-under-par 67 over the 6,079-yard course gave her an eight-under 72-hole total of 280 and the $30,000 first prize in the first LPGA tournament of the 1985 season. Her LPGA earnings are now up to $976,888 in a little more than 10 years.
