Prep Basketball BOYS : Inatomi’s Bombs Help Schurr Blast Slow-Starting Hart

Share

When Hart High School’s basketball team fell behind, 10-0, after the first three minutes of Tuesday night’s Foothill League game with Schurr, the Indians were in more trouble than the scoreboard indicated.

Hart Coach Doug Michelson’s team plays best with a deliberate, patterned offense, a style not conducive to catching an opponent.

Understandably, the slow start contributed to Hart’s 70-64 loss at home The Indians fell to 4-2 in league and 12-6 overall, while Schurr improved to 4-1 and 15-5.

“We went with a man-to-man defense and I think they expected a zone,” Schurr Coach Tom Thompson said. “That gave us a quick lead because we shut off Hare from driving the lane.”

Thompson was speaking of Hart’s 6-2 forward Dirk Hare, who scored 16 points, but missed his only field-goal attempt in the first half.

Shurr’s leading scorer, left-handed, bespectacled Todd Inatomi, scored a game-high 26 points.

Inatomi hit 7 of 9 long-range shots from 18-25 feet and 12 of 16 free throws. He also had 10 rebounds and eight assists.

Hart’s Kevin Honaker scored 20 points and Greg Spencer, a 6-1 senior guard, had 11 points for Hart, including nine in the first half.

Mando Leyva scored 15 points for Schurr, including 7 of 8 free throws in the fourth quarter. Kevin Kurz had 14 points and 8 rebounds for the Spartans.
