Community College Roundup : Hamilton Helps Saddleback to End Its Streak at Three, 60-50

Guard Alexander Hamilton had 17 points, 13 rebounds and 9 assists Wednesday night to lead visiting Saddleback College to a 60-50 victory over Cypress in South Coast Conference action.

The victory enabled the Gauchos (5-7 in league, 15-11 overall) to break a three-game losing streak and remain in contention for a post-season Shaughnessy playoff berth.

In other South Coast action:

Orange Coast 74, Golden West 52--Orange Coast guard Mark Goudge led all scorers with 20 points, as the Pirates won at home. The Rustlers (0-12, 7-18) led by 11 points in the first half, but OCC (6-6, 15-11) rallied.

ORANGE COAST (74)--Goudge 20, Johnston 6, Farmer 6, Morton 11, Ryan 14, Toomey 2, Mullet 2, Drake 13.

Cerritos 88 Santa Ana 77--The Falcons scored the first six points of the second half to take a 10-point lead, then made both ends of three one-and-ones in the last 57 seconds to hold on for the win at Cerritos and take over sole possession of first as Mt. San Antonio was upset by Compton.

Jeff Hughes scored a season-high 34 points for Santa Ana (2-9, 10-14).

In South Coast women’s action:

Saddleback 84, Cypress 57--The Gauchos (10-3), behind the play of Lisa Jones (18 points) and Coreen Cumin (16 points and 13 rebounds) defeated the visiting Chargers. Cypress (1-11) was paced by Cheryl Hoffman’s 31 points.

Orange Coast 70, Golden West 61--Tami Parker’s 12 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists paced the visiting Pirates. Amy Hathcock scored a game-high 21 points for OCC (10-2). Golden West (2-10) was led by Jill Amon and Jennifer Johnson, with 14 points apiece.
