Cal State Northridge won the California Collegiate Athletic Assn. basketball title and an automatic NCAA Division II tournament bid with a 64-62 victory over Cal State Los Angeles Thursday night.

The Matadors (19-9 overall, 11-3 in CCAA) converted 22 of 28 free throws to hold off the Golden Eagles (18-10, 9-5). Larry White led Northridge with 17 points, while Sam Veal scored 24 for Los Angeles on 10-of-15 shooting, mostly from long range.

Los Angeles would have won the conference title had it defeated Northridge because of an earlier 65-59 victory over the Matadors.
