A Los Angeles County firefighter who extinguished a fire despite suffering a fractured shoulder and back when he fell through the roof of a burning building was honored with the Medal of Valor. Capt. Thomas Pimm, who works out of a Lakewood fire station, was commended for saving his own life and putting out the fire in a commercial building. Pimm fell into the middle of the blaze, and the only way he could save himself was by putting out the fire. After battling the fire around him, Pimm carried hose line into the building’s attic to save the structure.
