Share

Danny Blancett, a senior left-hander, pitched a no-hitter Wednesday to lead Capistrano Valley to an 11-0 victory over San Clemente in the South Coast League opener on the Cougars’ field at Mission Viejo.

Jim Auten, who reached first on an infield error in the second inning, was the only Triton baserunner. It appeared that Brad Zell had led off the second with a single when he smashed a grounder up the middle. But the ball caromed off the bag to second baseman Marshall Hudson, who fielded it and threw Zell out.

Blancett improved his record to 1-2 with the no-hitter and received plenty of offensive support from Matt Atwood, who hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning, Keith Garey (solo homer in the fifth) and Fred Yslas (2 for 4 with 2 RBIs).
