Five solo home runs plus a strong pitching performance by Chris Pollack helped College of the Canyons to an 11-2 Mountain Valley Conference win over Mission College in a game Tuesday in Valencia.

Canyons (4-1-1, 12-6-1) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first on with the aid of a two-run single by designated hitter Frank Halcovich, a sacrifice fly by third baseman Bill Bluhm, and a solo homer by first baseman Mike Neighbors.

Mission (1-4-1) took advantage of a brief wild streak by Pollack in the second and scored a pair of runs on a couple walks and an RBI single by right fielder David Mendoza.

Meanwhile, Pollack (3-1) struck out nine and allowed just five hits over the first eight innings. Greg Meyer pitched the final inning for Canyons.

Halcovich was 3 for 4 on the day with 2 RBIs while Hernandez finished with two hits and 3 RBIs.
