David Lee, one of five starting sophomores for Hart High, pitched the Indians to a 4-3 Foothill League victory Friday at Schurr.

The win was Hart’s sixth in a row after opening the season with two losses.

Lee (3-1) struck out only one but allowed just one earned run.

Right fielder Mark Culbert was instrumental in all of Hart’s scoring. The 5-10, 175-pound senior hit a two-run home run in the first inning, then tripled in a run and later scored in the third.

Culbert, who is hitting .429 in league, was walked intentionally in his final two times at bat.

“Culbert provides a big bat and some senior leadership,” Hart Coach Frank Sanchez said. “But our young players are gaining confidence and are really jelling as a team.”

Schurr fell to 1-4 in league and 2-6 overall. Hart is 5-0 in league.

Newbury Park 5, Channel Is. 4

J.J. Fisher slugged home runs in the eighth and 10th innings to give Newbury Park a hard-earned Marmonte League victory at home against Channel Islands.

Channel Islands scored once in the eighth off winning pitcher Glenn Evans to break a 2-2 deadlock. With one out in the bottom half, however, Fisher drilled a solo homer to left field.

After Channel Islands regained the lead with a run in the 10th, the senior right fielder put an end to the marathon by following Sean Grady’s two-out single with another blast over the left-field fence.

Evans (2-2) went the distance for Newbury Park (2-2, 5-8), allowing seven hits, striking out three and walking eight.

Highland Hall 16, Pilgrim 6

Highland Hall pounded Pilgrim in a nonleague game at home behind the slugging of seniors Ben Ford and Jeff Klinger.

Ford hit for the cycle and drove in five runs. Klinger homered and doubled.

Highland Hall (5-1) had 15 hits, including three singles by Wes Parrish and a triple and double by winning pitcher Ricky Lefitz.

Lefitz (1-0) struck out six and walked four en route to a complete game. Only three of Pilgrim’s six runs were earned.

Bell-Jeff 12, La Salle 3

Bell-Jeff scored in every inning but the first against La Salle in an important Santa Fe League game at home.

Tony Perez was 4 for 4, scored three and had three runs batted in to lead the Guards.

The win improved Bell-Jeff’s league record to 3-1. La Salle fell to 3-2.

Fernando Guana added a home run and Nick Pavicic had four RBIs on a double and single.

Webb 4, Montclair Prep 3

Montclair Prep fell from the ranks of the undefeated in the Alpha League as Webb broke a 3-3 tie at home with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

After Evan Moore tripled and scored on a wild pitch, Webb (4-0) claimed sole possession of first place in league.

Montclair (5-1, 8-4) scored all its runs in the third inning on a two-run triple by Jeff Light and a double by Scott Randall.
