Dana Point : Blast on Boat Injures Mission Viejo Man, Son
A Mission Viejo man and his 16-year-old son were in serious condition Monday following an explosion aboard their boat in Dana Point Harbor.
Thomas Shaver, 48, and his son Steven were being treated for burns and injuries at Mission Community Hospital following the Sunday night accident.
The Orange County Fire Department said the explosion occurred about 9:30 p.m. when gas fumes that had collected in the bilges of the Shavers’ 28-foot power boat were ignited by a pilot light or a spark.
Shaver and his son were knocked off the boat into the water and rescued by neighboring boaters in the harbor’s east marina.
