Cypress High Protests Forfeit to Pacifica

Share

The Cypress High School baseball team is protesting a game it was forced to forfeit after a bench-clearing brawl Tuesday against Empire League-rival Pacifica at Pacifica.

The trouble started in the top of the second inning with no score and a play at the plate involving a Cypress runner and the Pacifica catcher. The Cypress team apparently disputed the umpire’s call on the play, which led to a brawl between the teams.

The home plate umpire--the only umpire present--then forfeited the game to Pacifica.

Cypress is appealing that ruling to Southern Section officials.

Bob Van Eps, Pacifica coach, had no comment on the incident other than to confirm there was a fight.

Ty Cobb, Cypress coach, said he expects to get a verdict on his appeal from the Southern Section by Monday.
