The San Diego Stars had a tough time with designated hitter Robert Rough, who singled and sacrificed twice for four RBIs in leading the San Bernardino Pioneers to a 10-3 win over the Stars Tuesday in the U.S. Open Amateur Baseball Tournament at Angels Stadium.

San Bernardino was leading, 2-1, with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning when San Diego’s Jim French failed to touch first base, allowing Pioneer first baseman Rick Jennings to score. Jennings had three singles in the game.

Carl Grovom, who took the loss, walked the next three batters to give San Bernardino another run. Rough then ripped his two-run single to cap the four-run inning and make the score 6-1.
