Del Dios
A brush fire ignited started from a campfire west of Lake Hodges in Del Dios Thursday afternoon charred approximately 40 acres of the area’s steep terrain, California Department of Forestry officials reported.
Nearly 200 firefighters battled the blaze on Mt. Israel, CDF Battalion Chief Bill O’Connor said. The small fire spread quickly because firefighters had difficulty getting close to the flames, but it did not spread to nearby houses.
No injuries were reported. Containment was expected by midnight Thursday and full control by 6 a.m. today, O’Connor said.
