A cook at a Sizzler Restaurant in Huntington Beach was shot once in the hip by a gunman who made off with the daily receipts, which the victim was taking to deposit in the bank.

The 20-year-old victim, whose name was withheld, was treated by paramedics and transferred to Fountain Valley Community Hospital, where he was listed in fair condition Saturday night.

He and another employee had just left the restaurant, at 16122 Goldenwest St., about 8:55 p.m. and were walking to a car in the parking lot when they were confronted by the robber.

“They were en route to make the deposit when the suspect came up behind them and fired a single shot at the victim,” Police Sgt. Luis Ochoa said.

The gunman, a man in his late 20s wearing a dark-colored baseball cap and a red bandanna over his face, grabbed a bag containing the deposits and fled on foot.

The amount of cash taken was not released.
