Costa Mesa : Woman Passenger Dies After Motorcycle Crash
A woman riding on the back of a motorcycle was killed early Tuesday when she was thrown onto the pavement after the bike struck a curb at Adams Avenue and Mesa Verde Drive East in Costa Mesa, police said.
The driver of the motorcycle, Victor Michael Bjelajac, 24, of Costa Mesa, was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter, police said. Bjelajac suffered cuts and bruises in the accident, which occurred about 12:45 a.m.
The identity of the victim is being withheld until her relatives in Europe can be notified, police said.
Investigators said the motorcycle was traveling east on Adams about 60 m.p.h. when it hit the curb. Neither Bjelajac nor the passenger was wearing a helmet, police said.
