Nunn, Still Looking for a Tough Fight, to Face Campbell in Vegas

Michael Nunn has a new opponent.

Whether he will have a fight remains to be seen.

He hasn’t had one yet. The North Hollywood middleweight has fought eight times in his brief career and has barely broken a sweat in most of them.

Four of his opponents weren’t around for the bell ending the first round. Two others fell in the second. Another was knocked out in the third. One actually lasted until the fourth. Two of his fights could legitimately be called shutouts, the loser failing to get in a punch.

On Sept. 25, the 22-year-old Nunn, who fights for Ten Goose Boxing of North Hollywood, will meet 29-year-old Charles Campbell in Las Vegas. Campbell, from Fort Worth, Tex., has a 15-1-1 record, including eight knockouts. His only defeat came at the hands of another rising middleweight prospect, Ray Ray Gray.

It will be a busy week for Ten Goose Boxing.

The night before the Nunn fight, Ten Goose bantamweight Frankie Duarte will fight in the main event at the Country Club in Reseda.

For Duarte, 31, it will be his first appearance in the ring since losing a split decision to World Boxing Assn. bantamweight champ Richie Sandoval last April in Sacramento. That dropped Duarte’s mark to 36-6, with 26 KOs.

His opponent on Sept. 24 will be Ron Cisneros (21-7 with 14 knockouts) of Portland, Ore., a man who knows all about split decisions.
