A Massachusetts state athletics board, after five skirt-clad boys showed up to play on a Northampton High School girls’ field hockey team, said it is considering handicaps and other ways to even up the sides. One proposal would place girls teams with male players in tougher tournament brackets to make competition more fair.
Boys would be prohibited from competing in girls field hockey, volleyball and other sports if the board had its way, an official said. A state Supreme Court ruling in the late 1970s, however, overturned a rule that barred boys from all-girl teams.
