Pound for Pound, Martinez Is Right

How delightfully perceptive Al Martinez is! In his defense of the girth-ful (Times, Sept. 12), he proves this fact. Artists, for one, realize that being biased is inane. I have sketched many ample samples of humanity and those who were nearly skeletal. What I looked for, as does Mr. Martinez, is character. There’s so much more to us than superficial externals. The soul has no concern with poundage. Vanity, is as always, in vain. Amen!
