El Toro : Cyclist Killed in Irvine Crash; Car Driver Held
A 24-year-old El Toro man was killed and an 18-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of felony drunken driving early Wednesday after a traffic accident in Irvine. Police said a car driven by Jackie Ford of El Toro was northbound as it entered the intersection of Harvard Avenue and Irvine Center at 1:50 a.m. and was struck on the left by an eastbound motorcycle ridden by Darryl Alan Durfee.
Durfee was pronounced dead at the scene.
“She (Ford) ran the light,” said Irvine Police Sgt. Ron Flathers.
Ford suffered minor injuries and was taken to Western Medical Center, where her condition was described as stable.
Flathers said Ford will be booked on charges of felony vehicular manslaughter and felony drunk driving.
