Bellarmine-Jefferson scored 16 points during a five-minute span in the third quarter Saturday night and cruised to a 23-3 non-league football victory over Oak Park at Burroughs High in Burbank.
Fernando Guana, who had a 97-yard kickoff return called back earlier in the game, returned a punt 52 yards for a touchdown that gave the Guards a 14-3 lead with 5:11 left in the quarter. When Oak Park got the ball back, quarterback Mike Jimenez was tackled in the end zone for a safety by Bell-Jeff’s Mark Bove.
With 23 seconds left in the quarter, Pete Vucurevic (124 yards on 17 carries) ended the scoring with a 66-yard touchdown run.
