REDDING, Calif. — The Clippers, led by the shooting of guard Derek Smith and some strong defensive work, defeated the Sacramento Kings, 114-109, Thursday night in a National Basketball Assn. exhibition game.
The Kings, joined for the first time by first-round draft pick Joe Kleine, battled to a 91-91 tie midway through the fourth quarter.
But the Clippers edged ahead when Rory White sank two free throws. Smith then hit on four straight shots to wrap it up. He finished with 18 points.
