There will be no Formula One Grand Prix in South Africa in 1986, claimed Jean-Marie Balestre, president of the International Auto Federation.
Balestre said that uncertainties over the situation in South Africa make it impossible to envision organizing a Grand Prix next year. Two French teams, Renault and Ligier, under government pressure, boycotted the 1985 Grand Prix, run last Saturday, to protest the South African government’s policy of apartheid.
