Irvine : Dead Man Identified by Way of His Jewelry
Distinctive jewelry has led to the identification of a body that was found burning in a field in Irvine last week, police said Monday.
Investigators said friends of Ronald Eugene Sampson, 31, of Long Beach notified them of the dead man’s identity after reading a newspaper description of the jewelry on the body, which had been discovered burning in a field near Turtle Rock about 3 a.m. last Thursday. No wallet was found on the body. Police declined to reveal Sampson’s occupation or place of employment.
Police said they were able to confirm the identification from fingerprints. An autopsy determined Sampson had died of a gunshot wound in the upper torso 48 to 72 hours before his body was found.
