Eighth-ranked Lincoln High School scored four touchdowns in the second quarter and went on to beat St. Augustine, 49-6, in a City Central League game played at San Diego High Thursday night.

The Hornets (3-1, 5-3) rebounded from last week’s 23-15 loss to Crawford in a showdown for first place, scoring five rushing touchdowns and two passing against the Saints (0-4, 1-7).

Kevin Key and Marcus Hopkins each scored twice. Malcolm Glover, the Hornets’ starting quarterback, had one touchdown pass, to Patrick Rowe.

Keith Mitchell, a starting safety, took over at quarterback in the fourth quarter and directed Lincoln to two touchdowns--one on a pass to Hopkins.

St. Augustine’s fourth-quarter touchdown was its first in league play in this season. St. Augustine has lost seven straight since opening the season with a win over Coronado.

Lincoln’s win allowed it to remain in the hunt for one of the league’s two spots in the 2-A Section playoffs. The Hornets are one-half game behind first-place Crawford and one-half game ahead of Christian. Lincoln and Christian meet Nov. 16 in the final regular-season game for both teams.
