With time running out, Azusa Pacific safety Mark Bittetti recovered a San Francisco fumble at the Gator 39, leading to a one-yard touchdown run by Russell. Mike Guipe added the tying extra point, as the Cougars chose not to go for two points and the win because a loss would have all but ended their playoff chances.

Christian Okoye set an Azusa Pacific season-rushing record, running for 156 yards in 27 carries to give him 1,216 yards. The old mark of 1,132 was set in 1973 by Jim Farmer.

Occidental 38, Redlands 6--Running back Vance Mueller had 124 yards and 3 touchdowns, all on 3-yard runs to lead the Tigers in a Southern California Intercollegiate Conference game at Redlands.

The win gave the two teams a split in SCIAC play this season, so it counts as a tie. Claremont-Mudd (1-7 overall, 0-3-1 in the SCIAC) rolled to a 40-0 lead behind quarterback Steve Olson, who completed 9 of 18 passes for 231 yards and a touchdown. Whittier is 6-3 and 2-1-1.
