PREP FOOTBALL : Garden Grove League : Bolsa Grande’s 33-Point Half Too Much for Rancho Alamitos

Kenny Torres rushed for 97 yards and scored 2 touchdowns to lead Bolsa Grande High School to a 39-7 victory over Rancho Alamitos Thursday at Bolsa Grande Stadium in Garden Grove.

The Matadors, (4-1, 6-4) scored 33 points in the first half and rested many of the starters in the second to get ready for the CIF Central Conference playoffs next week. Bolsa is the second-place representative from the Garden Grove league.

The Bolsa defense limited the Vaqueros to 5 yards in the first half and 59 total. Three Matadors, Travin Lui, Damon Fisher and Mike Valdez each had an interception. Lui returned his 25 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. The defensive unit also blocked a punt and recovered three fumbles to set up scores for the offense. After the blocked punt, Valdez scored from the 2-yard line, giving Bolsa a 14-0 lead 8 minutes into the game. It became 20-0 after Bolsa drove 68 yards on 15 plays in the second quarter.

Rancho’s (0-5, 2-8) touchdown came on a 50-yard return of a fumble by sophomore safety Sean Cheathan in the fourth quarter.
