Redskin Playoff Hopes on the Line Against the Giants
The New York Giants want to win tonight. The Washington Redskins have to win.
That just might tip the scales in favor of the struggling Redskins.
“Emotionally, this could be the biggest game of the year for them and that will make it tough for us,” Giant quarterback Phil Simms said. “It’s a game they need, a game we want.”
The Redskins (5-5 including a 1-4 record against their NFC East opponents) are chasing the Giants (7-3) who lead the Dallas Cowboys by a half-game.
The Redskins not only are in danger of losing the division title they have won for three seasons, but are in danger of missing a wild-card playoff berth.
“We are on the verge of elimination,” Coach Joe Gibbs said. “We have to be realistic: This is for the fifth (and final) playoff spot, no more, no less.”
