Students in the Los Angeles Unified School District raised $366,109 in a two-week fund-raising drive to aid Mexico City earthquake victims, officials announced. John Stroud of the Los Angeles chapter of the American Red Cross, which will administer the funds, said the money will be used to provide food, clothing, shelter and medical aid, as well as to build additional Red Cross emergency centers in Mexico City and outlying areas hit hard by the Sept. 19 quake. Students collected the money through activities, including food sales, talent shows and “jog-a-thons.” The largest single amount was raised by South Gate Junior High School, where students collected $15,100.
