Rojas Knocks Out Suarez to Win Forum Title
Refugio Rojas of Los Angeles knocked out previously undefeated Lupe Suarez in 29 seconds of the fifth round Thursday night to win the featherweight title of the Stroh’s boxing tournament at the Forum.
Suarez (15-1), of Corpus Christi, Tex., was in trouble late in the fourth round, and Rojas (39-9) came out quickly and finished him off in the fifth to collect the $50,000 first prize.
In a semifinal welterweight bout, Manning Galloway (37-8-1) of Columbus, O., won a disputed 10-round split decision over Jerome Kennedy (23-4) of Detroit. Galloway will fight Dio Colome for the title Dec. 17.
