Corona del Mar Wins in Water Polo, 7-6

Jason Liken scored a goal with two seconds left in overtime Friday to give Corona del Mar a 7-6 win over Sunny Hills in the 4-A Southern Section water polo final at Belmont Plaza Pool in Long Beach.

Likens lofted a shot just out of the reach of Lancers goalie Mike Day to give the Sea Kings’ Coach John Vargas his first Southern Section title since coming to the school three seasons ago.

In the 3-A final, John Evans scored five goals and Craig Tillman added four to lead Placentia El Dorado High School to a 13-9 win over No. 1 seeded El Toro.

Rancho Palos Verdes Miraleste outscored El Segundo, 4-0, in the opening period and then held on to win, 10-9, to take the 2-A championship.

John Gottschalk and Kyle Enright each had three goals for Miraleste.
