San Antonio’s Mike Mitchell took matters into his own hands Sunday night as the Spurs ended the Portland Trail Blazers’ three-game winning streak with a 117-106 victory at Memorial Coliseum.

Mitchell turned in a sparkling performance, scoring a game-high 34 points and limiting Kiki Vandeweghe to two field goals in the second half and 15 points for the night. Vandeweghe was averaging 23.3 points per game.

Center Artis Gilmore added 24 points and pulled down 15 rebounds for San Antonio (10-8).

The Spurs hit 49 of 88 shots from the field, or 55.7%. The Blazers (12-8) hit 30 of 36 free throws, but were unable to overcome a poor 37 for 89, or 41%, from the field.
