Vandals Set Blaze at School

A swastika, a satanic pentagram and the words, “Kill administration,” were found scrawled on an office door and sidewalk of a La Mirada elementary school, where an arson fire did an estimated $150,000 in damage, Los Angeles County Fire Department officials said.

Fire Capt. Frank Fitzpatrick said the blaze apparently was set with gasoline in a multipurpose room next to the Eastwood Elementary School office. Three adjoining classrooms were slightly damaged by smoke.

Neither the number of vandals involved nor their identities have been determined, fire officials said.

A neighbor across the street reported flames coming from the school’s administration building at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday.

Sgt. John Spiller of the Sheriff’s Department arson investigation team said detectives are looking into the possibility that the fire was the work of area gangs.
