Community College Basketball : Orange Coast Loses in Last Second to Skyline

Orange Coast College lost in the last second to Skyline, 57-55, Satuday night at Skyline College in San Bruno in a nonconference game.

The Pirates, paced by Scott Clements’ 13 points and John Mullet’s 12, led the Trojans, 55-54, with two seconds remaining. But a foul was called on an Orange Coast player and reserve Fred Bickett jumped off the Pirate bench in protest.

A technical foul was called on Bickett and Skyline sank three free throws for the win.

SKYLINE (57)--Washington 11, Peed 4, Alexander 11, Myers 1, Allen 6, Asaro 11, McKinney 2, Abrams 6, Gordon 1, Chapman 2, Cooper 2.

Halftime--Skyline 31-29

In Golden West Tournament action:

El Camino 86, Golden West 70--Despite 27 points from J.T. Strachan, the Rustlers lost to the Warriors in the consolation championship game.

El Camino (11-1) opened up a 44-29 lead at the half and never lead by less than 8 points in the second half. Roland Horvath was the leading scorer in the game with 28 points.

Strachan was the only Rustler named to the all-tournament team.

GOLDEN WEST (70)--Strachan 27, Smith 15, Debbs 16, Utu 5, Makoutz 2, Brown 3, Simpson 2..

Halftime--EL Camino 44-29

Riverside 96, Oxnard 80--Wilson Foster scored 31 points to lead the Tigers past the Condors to win the tournament. Tommy Wright scored 39 in a losing effort for Oxnard.

Glendale 105, Antelope Valley 90--John Hoffman 30 points to lead the Vaqueros past the Marauders in the third-place game.

In LA Trade-Tech Woman’s Tournament action:

Fullerton 66, LA Trade-Tech. 56--The Hornets won fifth place with the victory over the Beavers.

Freshman center Stacy Rooney scored 18, while sophomore guard Sandy Cotton scored 11 points, had 7 rebounds and 6 assists.

The Hornets (10-3) led 43-23 at the half.
