Jose Ortiz scored 18 points and Steve Woodside 14 Saturday night to lift Oregon State to its 15th straight victory over Oregon, a 63-56 decision at Eugene, Ore.

Darryl Flowers added 12 points and 7 assists for Oregon State (7-4 overall and 3-0 in the Pacific 10). Anthony Taylor had 16 points for the Ducks (5-8 and 0-3).

Oregon scored the last three points of the first half to take a 33-30 halftime lead. The Ducks started fast in the second half, taking a 40-32 lead, their biggest of the game.

Ortiz helped Oregon State take control from that point and Woodside allowed the Beavers to preserve their lead for down the stretch with six free throws and a field goal in the final 2:07.

“I wasn’t happy with our defense inside in the first half,” said Oregon State Coach Ralph Miller. “If we had been able to stop Kenny Sprague (12 points, all in the first half) we’d have been in much better shape at halftime.

“We did do a good job stopping them from outside. The key to our comeback was that we did a better job of getting the ball to Jose (Ortiz) in the second half.”

Stanford 66, Arizona State 59--Earl Koberlein scored a team-high 19 points, and freshman Todd Lichti scored 11 of his 14 points in the second half to pace the Cardinal at Tempe, Ariz.

Stanford (8-8 overall and 2-2 in the Pac-10) trailed, 40-33, after Arizona State’s Chris Sandle scored with 18:30 to play. But the Cardinal outscored the Sun Devils, 17-2, during the next 7:23 to grab a 50-42 lead.

Arizona State (7-6 and 1-2) drew within 62-59 on Eric Holloway’s layup with 1:03 left, but Stanford’s Keith Ramee made two free throws with 58 seconds remaining to seal the victory.
