Southwest Texas Holds Off USIU for 87-81 Victory
Sterling Forbes made three free throws in the final 28 seconds to secure Southwest Texas State’s 87-81 win for over United States International in a men’s basketball game Thursday night in San Marcos, Tex.
USIU (7-10) led 65-64 on a basket by Carl Chenault with 10:02 to play. But Southwest Texas (3-9) quickly regained the lead and maintained it for the rest of the contest.
Forbes made a free throw with 28 seconds left that put the Bobcats ahead, 82-79. Ten seconds later, he made two more, giving Southwest Texas State its biggest margin, 84-79.
Forbes led the Bobcats with 17 points and 7 rebounds, and teammate Ray Danielak added 16. USIU was paced by Joe Yezbak, with 16 points, and Charles Redding, with 14.
