Northridge’s Shirley Muldowney, who nearly died in an accident 19 months ago, makes her comeback this weekend at the Super Bowl of Drag Racing in Phoenix. Muldowney will be going for her fourth world title.

Polytechnic football Coach Dick Windham has retired after 25 years on the sidelines. He will be replaced by assistant coach Kevin Kennedy.

Bob Walk, the former Hart High and College of the Canyons pitcher, has filed for salary arbitration with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The right-handed veteran, who split time between the Pirates and Hawaii of the Pacific Coast League, was 2-3 with a 3.68 earned average in nine games.

Fairfield University’s Pat Yerina, a forward from Thousand Oaks, was named player of the week in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference last week after scoring 37 points and grabbing 20 rebounds in a pair of victories. Yerina had 19 points and 10 rebounds against Syracuse. The 6-5 senior leads the conference in rebounding at 7.8 per game and is third in scoring with an average of 14.5 points per game. Yerina, who became the 20th Fairfield player to score 1,000 points in his career with 19 against Lehigh on Monday night, is third in the conference in field-goal percentage (55%) and fourth in free-throw accuracy (80%). Fairfield is 11-4 overall and 4-0 in the MAAC.
