Oscar Muniz meets George Garcia for the vacant California super-bantamweight title in the main event on the boxing card tonight at the Irvine Marriott Hotel.
Muniz, of Pico Rivera, enters the fight with a record of 38-6, and was the U.S. Boxing Assn. bantamweight champion three years ago. Muniz upset World Boxing Assn. champion Jeff Chandler in a non-title fight, but Chandler eventually beat him in a subsequent WBA-sanctioned title fight.
Muniz has been on the comeback trail ever since. Garcia, from Santa Ana, has a record of 23-3-2.
On the undercard, Mario L’Esperance meets Tony Guido at 126 pounds, Nick DeLong meets I.V. Nalls in a heavyweight bout, Lee Sentinella meets Ruben Blackwell at 164 pounds, Tony Paisano meets Milton Bush at 160 pounds, and Alfred Gonzalez meets Norberto Ayala at 122 pounds.
