South Coast League : Wayland Leads El Toro, 65-49
Sophomore Corey Wayland scored a game-high 16 points Friday night to lead El Toro past Laguna Hills, 65-49, at El Toro.
Rick Tobey added 12 points and 9 rebounds and Eric Speaker had 10 points for the Chargers (5-4, 11-10). Freshman guard Chris Sheff led the Hawks (1-7, 3-14) with 14 points and Joe Moravick added 12 points.
LAGUNA HILLS (49)--Colburn 4, Nelson 4, Hardy 10, Kawada 5, Sheff 14, Moravick 12.
EL TORO (65)--Tobey 12, Johnson 8, Wayland 16, Speaker 10, Stone 6, Hargy 2, Derieg 4, Jacobson 2, Nodvedt 1, Cuttrell 4.
Capistrano Valley 68, Dana Hills 59--The Cougars led by 17 points at halftime and 18 points several times in the third quarter as they had an easy time at home. The Cougars (9-0, 21-2) received balanced scoring from Shawn Reed (19 points), Jason Trask (17) and John Waikle (12 points and 8 rebounds). Dana Hills (0-8, 6-12) was led by Dave Cmelak’s 22 points.
DANA HILLS (59)--Esteban 12, Crawford 2, Loyd 4, Lyon 16, Jones 3, Cmelak 22.
CAPISTRANO VALLEY (68)--Call 4, Stark 8, Waikle 12, Trask 17, Reed 19, McCullough 4, Davey 2, Montes 2.
The game between San Clemente (2-6, 9-12) and Irvine (5-3, 13-10) was postponed because of a leak in the roof at Irvine’s gymnasium.
