Gonzales and Tillman in Bouts at Palladium
Two of the nine United States boxers who won gold medals at the Los Angeles Olympic Games will box at the Hollywood Palladium today, and one of them, Paul Gonzales, will be fighting for a championship in only his third pro bout.
Gonzales (2-0), of East Los Angeles, who won the light-flyweight gold medal as well as the Olympics’ most-outstanding-boxer award, will meet Alonzo Strongbow (19-9-1) of Sepulveda for the North American Boxing Federation flyweight championship.
Heavyweight gold medalist Henry Tillman of Los Angeles (7-0) will meet Sylvester Lee (6-3) of Los Angeles.
Both bouts will be televised (Channel 2, 11 a.m.), starting with Tillman-Lee.
