LSU Coach Contemplates Retirement, Then Seems to Have Second Thoughts
Louisiana State basketball Coach Dale Brown, who claimed on national television Sunday that he was considering retiring after this season, refused to comment on the subject following a 74-72 loss to 12th-ranked Georgetown.
“Right now, I’m not real clear on that. I’d just as soon not talk about it,” Brown said after his team’s third straight road loss.
Brown, who has a 247-146 record in his 14 years at LSU, had guided the Tigers to a 14-0 record this season before running into difficulty when several players had the chicken pox and team captain Nikita Wilson was suspended due to academic difficulties.
But, after his team just missed beating Georgetown, Brown seemed happy.
“I’ve coached almost 400 games and I don’t know if I’ve ever been more proud than I was against Kentucky (a 54-52 LSU loss Wednesday). I’ve got that same feeling today.”
When told that he didn’t sound like a man considering retirement, Brown replied: “Well, I’m 50 and I’m unpredictable.”
