The Region : Truck Driver Sought in Cyclist’s Death
- Share via
A truck driver who fled after his tractor-trailer hit and killed a motorcyclist in Rancho Cucamonga was being sought as far away as Utah, officials said. Joseph I. Sanders, 18, of Ontario was killed when he tried to pass the big rig on Whittram Avenue. The truck turned into the motorcycle’s path, entangling Sanders and his motorcycle in the trailer’s front axles, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy Ed Witham said. Witnesses said the truck had the insignia of Pacific States Transport Inc. The trucking firm has about 500 drivers but has focused on 20 who could have been in the area. “Trucks headed for as far as Salt Lake City have people waiting for them,” Witham said. “The company itself is going to that effort--they have a reputation to take care of.”
