Boys’ Basketball Playoffs : Capo Valley Wins Coin Flip, Plays at Home Tuesday

Top-seeded Capistrano Valley High School (25-2) won a coin toss and will host Eisenhower (18-9) on Tuesday night at Saddleback College in the second round of the CIF Southern Section 4-A division basketball playoffs.

Mission Viejo (21-6), runner-up to Capistrano Valley in the South Coast League, will also be at home. The Diablos will meet third-seeded Muir (25-2) at El Toro High. In other 4-A games, Corona del Mar (23-4) lost a coin flip and will play Dominguez (20-5) at Compton College, while Santa Ana (20-6) will host Simi Valley (24-2). The site will be determined Monday.

In the 3-A division, all three teams from the Empire League won opening-round games. Champion Katella (22-3) lost a coin flip and will meet Centennial (11-10) at Dominguez High. El Dorado and Los Alamitos drew home games.

Los Alamitos (18-6) will play Brea-Olinda (23-4) in the only all-Orange County matchup. Brea has failed to advance beyond the second round in the past five years. El Dorado (20-5) will meet Pomona (16-6).

Troy (17-8), champion of the Freeway League, will travel to Chino High to play top-seeded Ganesha (24-1). Valencia (14-10), runner-up of the Orange League, will travel to Rowland High to meet third-seeded Hacienda Heights Wilson (23-3).

Action will resume in the 5-A division on Friday night. Top-seeded Mater Dei (26-0) will meet St. Anthony (15-9) at Long Beach City College. Surprising Edison (16-9) will host third-seeded Long Beach Poly (18-7) at Fountain Valley High.
