Southern Section Girls’ Playoffs : No. 1-Ranked Muir Beats Bishop Montgomery, 83-17

The Pasadena Muir High School girls’ team, ranked No. 1 in the nation, opened the Southern Section 4-A basketball playoffs with an 83-17 victory over Torrance Bishop Montgomery at Muir. Geannine Jordan scored 18 points, and her twin sister, Pauline, added 13 to lead the Mustangs (26-0).
Ventura Buena (24-0), ranked second in the 4-A and third in the nation, also won easily, 91-23, over visiting Centennial.
Tustin Foothill, last year’s 3-A champion, ran off to a 32-2 halftime lead en route to a 64-18 rout, its 25th straight victory. In 2-A action, Judy Mosley had 50 points and 29 rebounds to lead La Puente to a 96-65 victory over Calexico at La Puente. Defending champion Valley Christian opened the 1-A playoffs with 62-26 victory over visiting Kern Valley as Kari Parriott scored 36.
