Southern Section Soccer Playoffs : Laguna Hills Advances With Shutout Victory
Sophomore goalie Lynn Lambert of Laguna Hills High School recorded her 13th shutout of the season to lead the Hawks to a 2-0 victory over Alta Loma in a Southern Section 4-A girls’ soccer game Wednesday at Alta Loma.
Joanna Noble and Julie Allison scored on assists from Erin McGinnis. Laguna Hills sweeper Heather McIntyre played a good game defensively.
Laguna Hills (18-4-3) meets Edison Tuesday at a site to be determined by a coin flip this morning. Alta Loma finished its season at 18-3-3.
In other girls’ 4-A action:
Edison 5, Palos Verdes 2--Joy Biefeld scored three goals to lead the Chargers past the Sea Kings at Palos Verdes. Biefeld has 45 goals this season. Edison led, 3-1, at the half. Pam Lewin and Kendra Whisnand scored the Chargers’ other two goals.
Mission Viejo 2, South Torrance 2 (Mission Viejo advances on penalty kicks, 3-2)--The Diablos and the Spartans were tied, 2-2, after regulation and, after two, 10-minute overtime periods failed to produce a winner, Mission Viejo beat third-seeded South Torrance in a penalty kick shootout, 3-2. The Diablos, who finished second in the South Coast League behind Laguna Hills, move on to the semifinals.
In boys’ 1-A action:
Elsinore 4, Whittier Christian 1--The Tigers, a wild-card entrant into the playoffs, upset the fourth-seeded Heralds to advance to Tuesday’s semifinals.
St. Bonaventure 4, Orange Lutheran 2--The Seraphs defeated the Lancers and will move on to the semifinals, where they will play Calabasas, a 2-0 winner over Yucaipa Wednesday.
